Granulating

Granulation is the effect that occurs when, in addition to color, larger pigment particles remain visible on paper. The majority of granulating colors are mineral-based, as they are essentially made of crushed rocks. Granulation can range from coarse (large particles) to subtle (small, but still visible particles). Granulating colors bring more texture to the painted surface. Due to the unique nature of mineral pigments, granulating colors require pre-wetting and larger brushes for better application of mixes containing solid pigment particles.
